Virtue Foundation Participates in Global Forum for Women & Justice Celebrating International Women’s Day

On March 2-4th, 2009, Virtue Foundation Executive Committee Member Kim K. Azzarelli, Vice President, Legal and Public Affairs of Avon Products, Inc., and Dr. Ebby Elahi, Assistant Professor of Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Director of Fifth Avenue Associates, participated in the Global Forum for Women and Justice in Washington D.C. hosted by the International Association of Women Judges and supported by Avon. The event began with a reception hosted by retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor at the United States Supreme Court and included over 200 women judges and legal practitioners representing over 50 countries.

The Forum continued at the National Museum of Women and the Arts with two days of keynotes and panel discussions among women judges and other experts focusing on the elimination of violence against women and girls and improving their access to justice. Keynote participants included Justice O’Connor, Andrea Jung, CEO of Avon Products, Inc., Dean Stuart Schwab of Cornell Law School, Reese Witherspoon, Actress and Honorary Chair of the Avon Foundation, Joan Winship, Executive Director of the International Association of Women Judges and Cherie Blair, Chair of the Cherie Blair Foundation and renowned International Human Rights Activist. Dr. Elahi participated on a panel discussing the intersection of medicine and justice and Ms. Azzarelli served as Co-Host of the Forum. At the event, Avon announced the launch of the Avon Center for Women and Justice at Cornell Law School. Both Ms. Azzarelli and Dr. Elahi serve as Steering Committee Members of this new center.
