Medical Students Making Impacts: US/Mexico Border and Rural Health + Obstetrics/Gynecology in the Dominican Republic

In March of 2014, the Virtue Foundation helped to support and sponsor Medical Students Making Impacts (MSMI) for programming that seeks to improve and expand healthcare in underprivileged communities. This year’s programs included the US/Mexico Border and Rural Health Geriatric Elective Experience, and also an Obstetrics/Gynecology mission to the Dominican Republic. As a part of these two programs, students from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai travelled to underserved areas of Arizona and Mexico in order to provide screening, health education, and coordination of care for the elderly population. Mt. Sinai students who travelled to the Dominican Republic helped to support public health projects, including working alongside community health workers to educate women about reproductive health.
