In Memoriam: Dr Laurent Jouffroy
On December 16, Dr Laurent Jouffroy passed away peacefully at his home in Strasbourg surrounded by his loving family. For over a decade, Dr Jouffroy had been a pillar of Virtue Foundation’s medical outreach programs to Mongolia where he had been involved in teaching and direct patient care. A giant in the field of Anesthesia in France, his many accomplishments included his leadership as President of the French Society of Anesthesia and Reanimation (SFAR) amongst others. An author and pioneer in the field of ambulatory anesthesia, he is credited for helping advance the science and practice of ambulatory anesthesia in France and beyond.
Dr Jouffroy’s engagement in philanthropic medicine bore the same qualities he espoused in his daily practice of medicine: he was composed and unpretentious, yet confident and highly attentive to the patients’ concerns. His deeply ingrained moral and ethical standards applied to all aspects of his personal and professional life.
Dr Jouffroy leaves behind a devoted wife, four children and seven grandchildren. His legacy endures in all of the lives he touched as a physician and the many more he inspired by his wisdom and way of life. The Virtue Foundation community is forever grateful for the privilege of having counted Dr Jouffroy as our colleague and friend.
