Virtue Foundation has always been dedicated to three core areas: healthcare, education, and women’s empowerment. During this year’s trip to Ghana, the Virtue Foundation team was very excited about the opportunity to also work towards an educational initiative, supporting the renovation of the Tutco Demonstration Basic School. Located in Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper West region, the Tutco Demonstration Basic School serves nearly 500 pupils aged from 4 to 15 years old.

The need for support of this school cannot be understated: the walls are crumbling, pupils often sit outside in the shade of nearby trees, and lack the materials to carry out their work in a meaningful way. To address this glaring issue, Virtue Foundation volunteers have stepped in to sponsor the school, working to make it a welcoming, safe, and conducive environment for learning.

Virtue Foundation Austria team members secured a generous donation of school supplies, including pencils, pens, and notebooks from Faber-Castell, one of the world’s largest and oldest manufacturers of school and office supplies. Funds were also raised to support buying paint supplies to help renovate and revitalize the school as well as to purchase books to help enhance the school’s curriculum and further support the students’ academic performance.

This support and collaboration is just the beginning of renewed effort to address   the educational needs of children in the Upper West Region of Ghana, an area that is often neglected in broader development efforts. Virtue Foundation salutes Faber-Castell’s integral role in this effort of providing critical educational resources to the children who need them most.
