Virtue Foundation Sponsors a Primary School in Ghana

Virtue Foundation has always been dedicated to three core areas: healthcare, education, and women’s empowerment. During this year’s trip to Ghana, the Virtue Foundation team was very excited about the opportunity to also work towards an educational initiative, supporting the renovation of the Tutco Demonstration Basic School. Located in Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper West region, the Tutco Demonstration Basic School serves nearly 500 pupils aged from 4 to 15 years old.

The need for support of this school cannot be understated: the walls are crumbling, pupils oftentimes sit outside and in the shade of nearby trees, and lack the materials to carry out their work in a meaningful way. To address this glaring issue, Virtue Foundation volunteers have stepped in to sponsor the school, working to make it a welcoming, safe, and conducive environment for learning.

Team members from Virtue Foundation Austria were able to secure a generous donation of school supplies, including pencils, pens, and notebooks from Faber-Castell, one of the world’s largest and oldest manufacturers of such school and office supplies. Funds were also raised to support buying paint supplies to help renovate and revitalize the school. The raised funds also have been spent on buying books to help support the school’s curriculum and help support the student’s academic performance.

This support is just the start of what Virtue Foundation aims to be a renewed effort in addressing the educational needs of children in the Upper West Region, an area of Ghana that is oftentimes neglected in broader development efforts. Virtue Foundation is so proud to have Faber-Castell play an integral part in this effort, collectively providing critical educational resources to the children who need them most.
