Virtue Foundation Returns to Mongolia and Explores Northern Province

A multidisciplinary team returned to Mongolia for 2 weeks of advanced care and clinical training across Ulaanbaatar and Khuvsgul. Volunteers treated patients, performed specialized procedures, mentored local clinicians, and broadened access through continued collaboration with hospitals and regional partners.

In June 2025, the Virtue Foundation assembled an interdisciplinary team for its 15th annual Surgical and Teaching Mission to Mongolia. A dedicated group of 30 volunteer surgeons, physicians, fellows, residents, and students returned to the country for two weeks of patient care and medical education.

This year’s mission included a range of advanced surgical and medical specialties such as ophthalmology (retina, cornea, glaucoma, cataract, and strabismus), anesthesiology, hepatobiliary surgery, plastic surgery, and neurosurgery. The team worked across three hospital sites in Ulaanbaatar and, for the first time, extended its efforts to Khuvsgul, Mongolia’s northernmost province, where access to specialized medical care remains limited.

In collaboration with local healthcare professionals, the Virtue Foundation team treated more than 500 patients and performed nearly 150 advanced surgical procedures. Training and mentorship of Mongolian doctors continued to be a central focus of the mission, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to sustainable skills development and long-term impact.

The Virtue Foundation is deeply grateful to its partners and supporters, including SEE International, Alcon, Americares, CorzaEye, Ansell, New World Medical, and many others, whose collaboration and generosity made this mission possible.
