In August 2025, the Virtue Foundation presented two research posters at the Global Ophthalmology Summit in Chicago, Illinois.
The first poster showcased the latest findings from our Actionable Data Initiative, highlighting new analyses that visualize access to ophthalmic care worldwide. Using advanced spatial mapping, the team identified regions, so-called medical deserts, where ophthalmic services are most lacking. To date, the initiative has developed maps for 72 low- and lower-middle-income countries across multiple medical specialties. You can explore these insights further on the VFMatch platform.
The second poster focused on glaucoma surgery outcomes in Ghana, emphasizing the innovative role of ophthalmic nurses in post-operative care. This model demonstrates a safe, effective, and scalable approach to improving surgical outcomes and expanding access to care in resource-limited settings.
