Virtue Foundation is working to assist with immediate relief in the U.S., Mongolia, and Ghana. Â Also, through its Data Mapping Initiative, the Foundation is making available critical information on healthcare facilities and NGOs in low income counties providing a pathway to assistance.
Virtue Foundation develops a usable map of confirmed healthcare facilities in low-income countries. This data is important to map in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, which is predicted to disproportionately affect these poorer countries already suffering from fragile healthcare systems.
After a fruitful initial collaboration in August 2019, Virtue Foundation and The Okoa Project came together again in January 2002 to continue its partnership and work in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
As part of the annual Surgical and Medical Mission to Ghana, groups of healthcare volunteers aim to provide high-level, specialized care to those in underserved communities and also teach local medical providers how to continue to provide this care once the Virtue Foundation teams have gone.
In late August 2019, Virtue Foundation co-founder and intensive care specialist Dr. Joan LaRovere returned to Ghana with a group of volunteers to lay groundwork for the expansion of the Foundation’s multifaceted work in the country.
For nearly three weeks this past May, a team of volunteer surgeons, medical doctors, fellows, residents, medical students, nurses, and administrators traveled to Mongolia for the annual Virtue Foundation Surgical and Teaching Mission.
Even when Virtue Foundation teams are not actively in the country, the Foundation works tirelessly to support the communities it works with to ensure that there is a continuity of care throughout the year.
From October 22nd to October 29th, 2018, a team of Virtue Foundation volunteers returned to Ghana for its annual Surgical and Medical Mission to Ghana.
From October 4th to October 6th, 2018, the First Central Hospital of Mongolia hosted a celebration of an important milestone: 90 Years of Ophthalmology Service in Mongolia.
Several volunteer surgeons and medical professionals traveled to Mongolia on behalf of Virtue Foundation to carry out work in the area of cornea transplant surgery.
