In rural Ghana, expectant mothers have had a big obstacle to a safe delivery: Lack of transportation to a healthcare facility. But Virtue Foundation has partnered with Moving Health, a nonprofit launched by MIT students, to solve that problem. Together they are producing inexpensive, sustainable transportation in the form of a trailer that can be attached to the back of any motorcycle.
On December 16, Dr Laurent Jouffroy passed away peacefully at his home in Strasbourg surrounded by his loving family. For over a decade, Dr Jouffroy had been a pillar of Virtue Foundation’s medical outreach programs to Mongolia where he had been involved in teaching and direct patient care. A giant in the field of Anesthesia in France, his many accomplishments included his leadership as President of the French Society of Anesthesia and Reanimation (SFAR) amongst others. An author and pioneer in the field of ambulatory anesthesia, he is credited for helping advance the science and practice of ambulatory anesthesia in France and beyond.
This book is a comprehensive index of critical information on healthcare facilities and nonprofits in 24 of the world’s lowest income countries. The information is presented in an easily accessible format and organized in 24 country chapters; it allows users to better identify where healthcare services are available and where additional resources are needed.

Virtue Foundation is working to assist with immediate relief in the U.S., Mongolia, and Ghana. Also, through its Data Mapping Initiative, the Foundation is making available critical information on healthcare facilities and NGOs in low income counties providing a pathway to assistance.
Virtue Foundation develops a usable map of confirmed healthcare facilities in low-income countries. This data is important to map in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, which is predicted to disproportionately affect these poorer countries already suffering from fragile healthcare systems.
After a fruitful initial collaboration in August 2019, Virtue Foundation and The Okoa Project came together again in January 2002 to continue its partnership and work in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
As part of the annual Surgical and Medical Mission to Ghana, groups of healthcare volunteers aim to provide high-level, specialized care to those in underserved communities and also teach local medical providers how to continue to provide this care once the Virtue Foundation teams have gone.
In late August 2019, Virtue Foundation co-founder and intensive care specialist Dr. Joan LaRovere returned to Ghana with a group of volunteers to lay groundwork for the expansion of the Foundation’s multifaceted work in the country.
For nearly three weeks this past May, a team of volunteer surgeons, medical doctors, fellows, residents, medical students, nurses, and administrators traveled to Mongolia for the annual Virtue Foundation Surgical and Teaching Mission.
